The Power in Mindfulness
Our hurts and resentments and worries and fears and longings and sadness and ruminations are real; they deserve spacious, patient, tender and loving attention, much like we might bestow upon a struggling beloved.
And….we also get to discern when we choose to direct our loving attention to these inner clamoring parts. We create such power when we can notice and choose; we can decide with more intention how we experience the present moment.
The “Noticer” within us is always available! Indeed, our awareness is the ONE CONSTANT in the sea change of life. We really can’t make this claim about much else in life…. Life is fluid and unpredictable. But our ability to notice what is happening on a moment my moment basis is reliably available to us. Becoming mindful offers a place of refuge, an opportunity to breathe, a disengagement from feeling hooked by a thought or emotion. We get to notice ourselves and invite a bit of space from what is happening. We can then decide what is best for us in that moment. We might choose to tend to our thoughts or emotions with love and compassion, or perhaps decide we might need to focus on something else in that moment instead.
